Around 2000, I bought a Magnat xtrema 216 component set, audiomobile mass 2012 subwoofer, put 200w per side into the Magnats with passive crossover and 800w into the sub and was in heaven until two days ago when the magnet came loose on on of the Magnat 6.5" speakers.
It looks like Magnat is still making speakers and a comparable set appears to be their "Selection 216 Reference":
150w rms / 600w max
Freq Response: 30hz-28khz
150euro
I remember paying over $300 for my set, so mine may be better (I can't find the specs, though it did come with ceramic tweeters)
I recently bought some polk dxi650's (60w RMS) for another car and tried one of these in place of my broken woofer. It sounded okay, but lacked a bit of bass and could only reach half the volume of the Magnat. I was leaning towards buying the polk mm6051 set (125w), but I'd basically be throwing away the crossovers and tweeters and am looking for a better deal.
If I could find a Magnat speaker dealer, that would be great. Otherwise, I'll be looking for a set of comparable drivers that do 80hz and up with ~150w. I've actually switched to a smaller setup since then and have an alpine pdx-v9 (running 2-way active front stage) and a 10" JL sub.
So, any suggestions on some 6.5" speakers I can buy as singles (or a pair) that's comparable to the Magnat or Polk MM?
