Say I wanted to give up the RTA and just use my ears to do a little system tuning...
And I had both 1/3-octave pink noise tracks and a 1/3-octave EQ...
How would I tune by ear to approximately achieve one of the target curves (Andy W, etc.) that have been discussed here?
For example, the Andy W curve is flat from 160 Hz until about 2500 Hz.
Assuming my ears could tell me when sounds are approximately the same dB level, would I tune all bands to be equal loudness (to my ears) in this range?
Or would I need to take in to account equal loudness countours and tune such that 160 - 500 Hz gets progressively louder (since our ability to hear the lower frequencies is diminished in this range) and that 1600 - 2500 dips softer (since we are very sensitive to frequencies between 1600 and 3150 Hz)?
