Zapco Gains and output question

I've got 4 Zapco DC amps in my car. I'm going to start the process of setting the gains correctly on all the amps. Once I've got the gains set just below clipping, I'm assuming the tweeters and mids are going to be way too loud. To tune those down, should I reduce the gains or use the "output" function within the Zapco DSP software to reduce the volume? I'd also love an explanation of why as well! I've included a screen grab showing the output portion within the DSP software.
