As I'm delving further into car audio, I'm starting to see a bigger gap between the end result I'm satisfied with compared to where my system is currently at.
I've come to a point where I'm planning on running active, and a DSP that allows a manual tune (just exchanged my MS-8).
Reading all the threads about tuning the EQ via RTA vs using your ears, I'm not sure where to start with all this. Not only that, but I have no idea what to listen for? I'm not in the audio profession, nor do I have a background in music.
I tried tuning the speakers after the auto-tune on the MS-8, as well as my friends setup with a 80PRS, but could not really be certain what I was doing. I can tell it sounded different when I cut or added, but I couldn't tell if it was better or worse, until it I adjusted it an obvious, excessive amount.
Also, I found it hard to tune as the song would go through various sounds. Maybe this is where like a test frequency or pink noise would be helpful?
