Mini Cooper Install

'03 Cooper S with 160K on it, I was going to keep the car about 1 more year.

I wanted to add BT for the phone and had a place rip out the "Premium" Harmon Kardon System.

I'm a music lover and didn't want to invest too much on an older car. The stock system was listenable with the bass turned all the way down, nothing great, but listenable.

This is what he installed so far:

Pioneer DEH-X6500BT Head Unit
Focal Access 165 CA1 SG in doors.
Pioneer TS-A6984R 6x9 in the rear
No Amp.

Sound is anemic, the Pioneer 6x9's in the back are way more efficient than the Focals in the front, they do add a tad of bass, but I would prefer a front soundstage, not rear. overall I liked the sound of the stock system better, plus, everyone says it sounds like I'm in a tunnel when on the phone.

He says I need an amp and we can crossover the 6x9's in the back to act as bass drivers only. He wants to install an Arc Audio XDi804, rather than put the stock system back in. Amp may add some ooomh, but still no soundstage.

Are the Focal's designed to work with a sub? they sound thin. i guess that's better than boomy.

Am I just throwing good money at a losing battle on such and old car? I still have to pay him to put the old system back in anyway. (I'm leaning toward that).

Sorry for the long post, thanks for any ideas on which way to go with this,

Tim
