2001 Chevy Door Component Upgrade

I plan on starting a build thread once I've got all the items in hand. My truck in a stock 2001 Chevy 2500HD Crew. The forum has already helped me to choose a head unit (alpine D310) and amps (MB Quart Refence Series 4.80 & 1.800 from Mark PPI_Guy in the classifieds). I've got an old Kenwood 8" in a small enclosure that I plan to just take in and out, as space is needed. I would like to run an active crossover and I'm hung up on speaker options for the doors.

The front doors have the component config and look like this:

I don't have any tweeters in my A pillars like the Bose equipped trucks. I'm not opposed to adding them in there, but I do like the idea of keeping things out of site.

1. Do companies sell components without the passive crossovers? Is there any value or savings going a DIY way there?

2. I did reach out to a fellow who is a sponsor on a chevy truck site who sells Sundown only. He advises the Sundown 6.5 component for the fronts, and they told me there were only a few sets in stock and to hurry up and buy or they would be out till March. I just don't like to be rushed to a decision. They may be great speakers for $199. Since I can't really audition them, it sparked me to start this thread.

I also reached out to one of our Site Sponsors, Sonic and the sales guy was advising me in the Focal 165 A1 here:

I'm always suspicious of the entry level offerings of high end brands. Thoughts on these two or others which lend themselves to a good fit for my application?

I also plan on buying the MB Quart Reference 4.50 amp from Sonic to use on the tweeters up front. Once I decide on the fronts, I hope I can get a complementing speaker for the rear doors. I plan on doing monitors for my kids back there, and so a coaxial is probably preferred, but I do have the extra channels to run components too. Kinda asking a lot in this post, but this forum is not short on knowledge or a willingness to help.

Thanks in advance!

Paul
