Evolving my Car Stereo

Back in high school I bought my first car audio system. Polk 6.5 Coaxials on the Alpine's Head Unit power in the front and rear and 2 Pioneer 12" Subwoofers with a Pioneer Amplifier.

A couple of cars and years later and I have currently in my 2005 Subaru Impreza RS:

Head Unit Alpine CDA-105
Amplifier Hifonics HFi100.4 (only using 2 channels for the CCX65s)
Speakers Crescendo Audio CCX65
Subwoofer N/A

A step up with the Component speakers running amplified, but no subwoofer and a couple of coworker's new installs have me want wanting more.

Due to space constraints I am looking at an Alpine SWR-823D subwoofer and upgrading the Head Unit to a Pioneer DEH-80PRS. Then running the HFi as a 3-channel to power the 823D and CCX65s for now.

My next step would be a new amp and then going to an Active speaker setup with new tweeters and woofers.

The current CCX65s take 100W, the Alpine sub will take 150w-350w (reviews seem to say it could take a bit more). I would expect my future Active Front Stage to also take ~100w.

My question is what Amplifier would make a good transition from my current setup to an Active setup down the road?
  • Budget is $300 or so. I could up a bit though and extend my project timeline.
  • I would be open to a 5-channel amp to run everything now and down the road, or a 4-channel now in the same setup at the HFi to be paired with a mono amp when I go Active in the future.
  • I am focused on SQ over SPL, but I think anything would be a step up from my current setup. :)

I appreciate the help!
