I currently have a clarion mp6 marine head unit, 700 watt Concept CA 664 Amp, 4 Sony marine speakers and a 10" outdated Sub, this is all on my Sea Ray 500 Sundancer Boat (50' x 15' wide)
The plan is remove the 4 Sony speakers from the cockpit and replace them with 4 alpine SPS-600 marine 6.5" speakers that will be powered off the Concept CA 664 amp. I will also add 4 additional Alpine SPS 600 speakers to the cockpit Radar arch and and 2x10" JL Audio MX 101B3 CG-WH marine subs that will all be powered off JL Audio XD700/5 amp.
The four Sony speakers that I am removing from the cockpit will now be mounted on the rear swim platform and powered by JL audio JX 360/4 and controlled off a separate volume control knob that will be mounted somewhere near the swim platform
Here are my questions.
1-power source... My research shows that I will need to abandon the current 8 AWG power supply and run new positive and ground 4 Awg wires directly from the 2 house batteries to a distribution block. Then 4 Awg wire from the block to each amp. All three amps will be with in 6"-12" of each other.
2-Amp Connections...I am assuming that I can simply go from Pre outs to inputs from amp to amp. What type of RCA connectors should I be using.
3-Speaker Wire... What Awg speaker wire should I be using. I have been told everything from 18-12 Awg. My thoughts are 14 Awg should be a good wire selection.
4-should I do this myself or hire someone to come in and do it. I am a pretty good DIY guy and have hooked up several systems with a single amp. I have never done multiple amps and more then one Sub.
Any help, suggestions, things i havent thought about, articles I should read that anyone wants to throw out there I would greatly appreciate.
Thanks in advance
Steve
