I'm building a 1st generation Dodge Dakota. Dropped, v8, street/strip daily driver. Honestly, on a whim I looked for one after thinking about it the previous day, and easily found a high trim level regular cab 2wd model in very good condition with low mileage for peanuts. Jumped on it, and after a week of planning, it's time to start doing!
I would like to pull off a decent SQ build, within a reasonable budget. Budget is flexible.
I want to deaden the doors properly, I've emailed SDS about this. Rudeboy hasn't responded yet, so I've started looking around at other options. CCF and MLV seem fairly easy to get online, and looks like I can get about 100 sq ft of both for about $300 Cad shipped. More than I originally planned, but should do both doors, the floor, bottom of the interior firewall, back wall, and maybe the ceiling. With SDS cld tiles out, I found B-Quiet - local Canadian company (I like that). Their Ultimate deadener seems reasonably priced, and though it may not be as effective as SDS's product, alot of people seem to think quite highly of it.
Lots of good information here and elsewhere on this forum.
I understand that deadening my doors will improve midbass response. Will deadening my floor, back wall, ceiling, etc, have the same affect? Or is the point more to reduce background noises? Indirect or direct affect?
I would like a simple 3 way, small fullrange in sails, midbass in doors, and my 2 old Alpine 8's for sub bass behind my seats. I have more reading to finish deciding on the equipment, but ideas so far;
HU - Pioneer DEH80PRS, Clarion CZ702, or 2 Mini DSP 2x4 with my JVC HU
Mini DSP solution looks to be the most flexible, Pioneer auto-tune the simplest although priciest, and the Clarion the most cost effective.
Mids/midbass - one of the 6.5" Peerless offerings, or Silver Flute woolcones IB in my doors. I've heard the Silver Flutes, although they were in a small enclosure on/in the doors and thought they sounded magical compared to my JL C2 mids. The Peerless SLS, reads like it will have the most impressive midbass response.
fullrange - 2 to 3" is doable in a smallish PVC enclosure, I like the idea of all vocals up high. As far as product - I haven't the faintest idea. I'll decide after picking my mids!
subbass - I love my pair of old Alpine 6086GX. One behind each seat with amps in between
That's my thoughts so far, anyone want to chime in - please feel free to!
