For some time, this Clarion wouldn't play a CD as soon as it was inserted. It would spin, then eject. I'd re-insert it a few times and eventually it would play. The number of times it took to catch kept increasing, and it seemed as if the unit benefited from heating up. I could tell when it was close to accepting because in the last time or two before it accepted the CD I would hear the click of something that sounded like it was trying to grab the CD and position it to play. Finally, I'd hear the sound of enough clicks in a row that it had caught and began playing.
Now when I try it, I don't get any clicks at all -- even if I insert it 50 or more times. I've done it extensively, with the unit warmed up, and it still doesn't happen.
Can anybody explain what has happened to the unit mechanically? Is there something I could do on my own by opening it up and replacing or adjusting a piece? Or is the answer that I might as well get a new HU if I want to hear CDs?
