Just got my first brand new car! audio needed

Ok so as title states, I'm the new owner of a 2013 Subaru hatchback. I'll be honest, when looking at cars, I don't care for the stereo(not that I don't like music, I just feel like my work sounds better than stock and I planned on upgrading no matter what it sounded like). I honestly never even turned it on while test driving or even on delivery for this car, even the first drive home the stereo was off! Ok so
now I've had the car a couple days and must say, I like the stock stereo features. It reads my iPod through USB and takes my phone calls through blutooth. What I don't like, the lack of midrange tunability, the lack of low end bass. I plan on running some form of external processing, currently running rf 360.2 in another vehicle and I like it.
Any opinions? I will be doing this slow so maybe buying deadening materials and adding that first. Also, I'm not worried on sub choice but rather enclosure design.
Any tried and true design for hatch? I've ran sub up port up in my buddies hatch civic but never tired anything else. Just looking to blend everything well and I may even ditch rear fill as I'm a front stage only type of guy.
Thanks in advance for reading, all opinions are welcome
