Hi
I just Bought a sony cdx 4040 for $25 on ebay it came with the box owners manuals & is in great condition but the cd player will not read cds it gives a
E-04 error. I tried to clean the lens but it still does not work

does anyone have another cd mechanism. that will fit into it?

and do any other sony car cd players have the same mechanism that will fit into the cdx 4040

New guy here, I' ll be adding a 5.1 surround sound eclipse deck into my mb coupe and trying to figure out on the center channel what to do. Not to strong on cutting into the dash yet on a speaker type of size so thought about using 2 or more good tweeters instead. Would this be a good alternative/recommendation? I plan to have a pretty good front stage, something component maybe 3-way

On a non-audio related project in my car (2011 Mustang) I removed the back seats and rear quarter trim panels. Now I seem to have so much more depth, impact and overall output! Not just the lows, but the system as a whole has taken a leap forward to that "holy sh*t" level (for me)

Of course I would rather not leave the car like that...so what made this difference? Less material to adsorb sound, cabin gain? What could be done to retain as much of this as possible but still re-build that area to look half decent.

I have been considering a rear seat delete...or could it be that the cabin is now completely open to the trunk that is contributing to this perceived increase in the audio??

Hey folks happy Labor Day hope nobody's working to hard. So I finally bit the bullet and ordered the jbl power series components for my 98 prelude. I'm just a little un sure on how to power them. I have two amp I'd like to use once I get a 80prs for processing. I have a mtx 3402 for the tweets at 50x4 at 4 ohms and a mtx 3404 50x4 or 200x2 I'd like to bridge for the mids. I've read many posts question the true impedance of the mid and with the amp not being stable at 2 ohms bridged I'm questioning whether it's worth adding the 2 channel amp or if I should just use all 4 channels of the 3404. I also have a 3401 for sub duty. Thanks in advance for any thoughts all will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I would like to introduce DIY community to new solution which is not so new for professionals. It was at the AES convention in October 2006 when professionals were introduced to it. And now it is widely used for studio monitor tuning to get the most accurate reference possible which allows recording producers and sound engineers to do their job two times faster as before.

Many years ago we had just two „knobs” - LF HF to adjust some device’s sound to our preference – turn knob, listen to result. Turn again; listen again ... and so on.
Then, when electronics became more advanced, we had 10 knobs (1 octave EQ) and we had more space for our creativity – turn and listen.
Then, when electronics became much more advanced, we had 31 knobs (one third octave EQ) and some kind of analyzer with about 31 bands usually. Now are able to see analyzer results, not just listen to them. And we now see, turn, listen... and so on... And we „know” that not every dip that we see on curve is supposed to be equalized.
Everyone who has tried to do such a job knows that it is infinite job ...

Another story is with „power” domain measurements introduced to world in far 2004-2006.
With power domain measurement curves you don’t need to decide which of the dips are qualified to „do not touch” and which are supposed to be corrected. Everything on curve is valid.
This tends to create CAD of EQ – Computer Aided Design of EQ.
We can get highly trustable curve of Sound Power Frequency Response or Sound Power Density Response (for closed environments as car interior).

And by use of CAD of EQ (APL Workshop software) can create EQ filter based on SPFR – SPDR measurement: Acoustic Power Lab :: SPFR

Now tuning process is – measurement, equalizer design, listen to result, add some preference (parametric EQ) listen to result and that is it.
And you can start from such result:

You have full freedom to decide how much to follow measured curve and how much to introduce your own.
But CAD will free you from routine job to recreate curve by use of some parametric EQ and it will free you from decision “do” or „do not touch” and allow you to use your creativity to find your own sound.

Well guys. I didn't think I would ever be selling this but here it is. A critical mass P2-GTX TUBE pre amplifier.
Give any system that final touch of tube goodness. As far as I can tell these were only produced overseas. This is brand new only taken out for pics never seen power. I have used the sound stream m tube 8 but the build quality was awful. This one is a horse of another color. The build quality of this looks wonderful. I bought this to replace my planet audio HVT amps which are big. This will allow you to get the same sound with smaller amps. If you have any questions I will do my best to answer them.

Price is $200 shipped a little more than that junk soundstream
M Tube 8 and way less than the milberts. Perfect sweet spot if you ask me.

I wanted a bit of input.

I have a flimsy ~12" x 16" section of sheet metal in the quarters of my car that I need to reinforce and stiffen. I made fiberglass panels to fit in the area by molding the interior of the sheet metal with mat. After that cured, I lay down three layers of 7781 E-glass, one layer of 1/4 coremat, followed by another 3 layers of E-glass. The fiber glass panel is super stiff and does not flex at all.

I need to adhere this panel to the sheet metal. I am somewhat worried about differential expansion rates, and the possibility that the panel will bend the sheet metal in extreme conditions. So the idea was to float the fiberglass panel on the sheet metal. It should stiffen things up quite a bit. But I am wondering what adhesive to use. I have used PL 8x construction adhesive, but it seems to dry rather stiff, and foams and expands some as it cures. Another possibility is 3M 5200 marine adhesive, which apparently dries more flexible, but can take days to cure.

Just installed the spz60 set and Im very impressed by them. Just so happens my LAB slapbox is the exact specs recommended by boston at 1.3 @ 33 hz. Heard great things and feel like using all Boston drivers.
