Sealed box is the best box?

3 way active vs 4 way active

$

OK people, so I'm new on the site but have been an audiophile for the home for years. I'll tell you what I currently have in my truck first. 2000 dodge 1500 with a kenwood receiver, running to 2 amps cadence zrs c1 and c4.

c1 is hooked to 3 4-ohm speakers 2 10" jl w3 in a sealed box under back seat and 1 12" w3 in a jl stealth box under front center seat.

c4 is hooked to 2 sets of components mb quart qsd 216 6.5" in the front doors and qsd 213 5.25" in the kick panels. both using the factory passive crossovers.

Don't get me wrong the system sounds ok, but recently the heater core went out in my truck and ruined the carpet. and since I am going to be removing the dash and replacing the carpet, I figured time to upgrade!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to go active and have already purchased a 80prs pioneer receiver, and another c4 zrs amp. I also bought another yellow top optima and a battery tray to put a 2nd battery under the hood. I also have a kicker 2 way active crossover, not sure if I'll need to use it or if I will be returning it.

I mostly need help figuring out whether to split into 4 way active, or if to keep 3 way active and set the bandpass crossover for midrange to the 6.5" and then use either the amp high-pass or the kicker crossover to block some of the bottom frequencies from going to the 5.25"

Also guys I'm thinking of driving it like this one of the c4's for the mids, 1 channel a piece. as for the other c4 not sure if I should run a tweeter off each channel. amp is rated at 150x4 at 4 ohms, but the tweeters are 6 ohms (stamped on the back of the tweeter) or wiring them to only half the amp and running them at 3 ohms per channel, and then bridging the other side and running the 12" sub off of channel 3 and 4. (my thinking is that having subs of different sizes in different boxes in different locations in the vehicle should be driven off different amps).

Any thoughts people???????

Anyway to make subs hit lower frequencies

I got a kicker l7 12 and I bought a box for it that's tuned to 43hz. I know that's high but I don't know how to make one and it was the only one I could find online that fit my budget, cube requirement, and trunk space. I'm now paranoid after researching that my system will sound like crap. I like a lot of rap and hard rock. I want to be able to hear the low frequencies loud ( low 30s and high 20s). Is there anything I can do to the box or my amp to make this happen?

using a relay to power accessories

so i just installed my amp rack, which took the better part of 8 months, on and off, and nothing worked!

this was not the result i was hoping for, so tried trouble shooting this myself. first of all, my amps are kenwood xr series and are apparently very sensitive to the order in which the wires are hooked up. so, i tried this order of operations 4 or 5 times; still nothing. so i checked my head unit and everything was in order there.

so after making sure everything was absolutely connected correctly, i started checking things one by one, bypassing the relay. well, doing this i figured out that i'm definitely getting Power and a strong remote signal. i used this to basically narrow it down to the relay itself.

i haven't replaced it yet, which im on my way to grab a replacement. so, my question is, on pin #87, how many accessories can i Wire up to this? i currently have the amp remotes (all six), dsp, fans and leds all connected to this; is this too much of a current demand for this to supply and if so, how do i work around this?

I was down to one remote and today that remote fell into a bucket of soapy water so now i have no remotes for the system and can't buy one..
I would rather not replace the entire system so what if i bought another identical alarm system (clifford 3305x), could i program the remotes to work with my alarm or program the alarm to work with the new remotes ?

Want bandpass for sub/midbass/mid/high. Will the 6xs or 4xs work? Someone on another forum said to connect like four 2xs. Would want to go with connecting three or four 24xs because of phase adjustment. How important is phase adjustment?

Component set????

I have been running a set of jbl p660c components. Always have been happy with them. I had a set of jbl c508gtis sitting new in box for about a year. Finally decided to try them when I got a different vehicle. They sounded incredible, very loud, very detailed. Only downside was not as much midbass. I put the p660's back in yesterday. Not as happy with them now. Lacking the detail of the gtis. I have had the gtis up for sale for awhile, have an interested buyer now but not sure I want to sell now. If I sell the gtis and the p660s, what would be a good component set that will give me the clarity of the gtis and a stronger midbass??

I bought the gtis to go active, using them for the highs and adding a midbass driver. This is still an option as well

Cz702 time align setup

Alright I've just gotten a new clarion in my Car and can't find much about the time alignment and the manual isn't exactly thorough with how to set it up.

Instead of choosing a delay for each Speaker like other head units it has a distance selection, am I to assume that I should just enter the distance from my headrest to each Speaker and hope the unit calculates the relative delays from the info I put in? Or the other way I'd imagine it might work is to find the distance difference between them and put the difference in.

Ie let's say the sub is 2.8m away and front right tweet is 0.6m, would I put the sub channels as 0 and that tweeter as 2.2? Or would I put 2.8m on the sub and 0.6 for the tweet and have the unit work off that?

Wishing the manual was a little more in depth about it as this is my first setup with the option and it's incredibly vague on that setting in the manual as I've mentioned 2 possible ways it could be interpreted due to the lack of info on how their set up works.

NEED HELP w/ WIRING origional 94 GMC Sierra radio to pioneer radio

$

replacing the radio in my 94 GMC sierra 1500 extended cab. I ran into an issue- I got the dash taken apart and pulled the radio out. I got a pioneer x6700bt3 radio as well as an antenna adapter and the converter plug. the problem is- there is no plug into the original radio. I can splice the wires to the new radio but the new radio has more wires than the original ones and they don't have all the same colors or number of certain colors. I have a chiltons owners manual and while theres a "radio removal and instillation" section IN THE "CHASIS ELECTRICAL" section and has NO information on wiring. (kinda pissed about that) it also didn't have any info on how many and location of the bolts... but anywho:
has anyone replaced their radio? how did you do the wires? a diagram or link ( or even pink to red, yellow to yellow, etc) would be fantastic!

Best decibel meter for money

$

Ok so I really want one, I'd love to hear some people chime in their experience with these. Most meters I've seen max out at 130 db, how much on average does it generally cost to get a fairly decent unit that can do at least 150 db accurately? Any suggestions where to look for these high db meters?

Best place to document build?

$

Hi all, newer to the site and figured this would be a great place to document the truck I'm building for dad. A looonng time ago, when P.P. Art Series were the hot new item..., I spent 2 years in the business right out of high school. So figure a old, washed up installer. Roughly 18 months ago I found out I had a serious health issue to deal with and I told myself if I get to the point where I feel ok, I'm doing something for dad.

Well, the project is underway and since I am a audio junkie, I am incorporating a serious audiophile system in the 1 off interior!

Where is the best place to start this thread around these parts?

Thanks guys,
Jason
