FOCAL UTOPIA 21WX AS A MIDBASS DRIVER

$

Hi Guys

Has anyone used a Focal 21wx as a midbass driver in a 3 way system?

I know Mike uses the Ultima 8" drivers in his car as midbass drivers

Assuming space is not a issue... so will it work?

Thanks Guys

Tweeter power question

Ill be running a mosconi as100.4 bridged to 310w per mid. I ordered a mosconi as 100.2 to run my tweeters.

My concern is i didnt realize the focal TBE tweets were 8ohm. Will the tweets be able to keep up with the mids with only 50w per. They are rated at 200w rms crossed at 2500hz.

Nakamichi PA506 amp connection ?'s

$

So, I inherited a Nakamichi PA506 amp and a nakamichi 10" sub that I just installed in my truck, but I have no manuals to go with it. I connected the fused power lead directly to the battery, grounded it to the chassis, and connected the blue remote lead from the head unit. Got the input hooked up and the sub wired, and man does it sound great! Really rounds out the 4 polk 6x4 in the cab. Here is my question though.....When I connected it to the battery, i had a decent spark, but had good power to the amp and everything worked as it should. Does it continue to draw a lot from the battery, or does it just maintain a slight charge until signaled by the head unit? Total noob question I would guess, but this is the first car stereo stuff I have installed and want to do it right and not come back to a dead battery. Any help for a new kid would be appreciated!

Portable Digital Music File Storage: SanDisk Ultra 400GB MicroSDXC

For those that are interested, I just saw that SanDisk has released a new SanDisk Ultra 400GB MicroSDXC memory card! :)

Unfortunately it's $250, but I'm sure that will come down a bit in time. Link...

SanDisk 400GB Ultra UHS-I microSDXC Memory Card with SD Adapter - Preorder @ B&H

The "Write" speed is really slow for modern standards, but the "Read" speed is more than adequate for playing music files on nearly any device that accepts MicroSDXC or SDXC memory cards (with the adapter).

A USB Thumb Drive would most likely be the less expensive route, but if your device can only use MicroSDXC or SDXC, then  !

Classic Porsche 911 install

I'm about to start installing a system in my '84 911, and I figured I'd post my plans before I started buying stuff. It has been years since I've installed anything substantial, and my knowledge of the quality of currently available products is old, so I'd like to avoid bungling it by opening my plans up to scrutiny. Please feel free to suggest superior equipment or point out design flaws. If anyone is curious about the 911-specific install challenges, I'll probably go into greater detail in this sister thread:

It's time to get some proper tunes in this car - Pelican Parts Technical BBS

These cars are small, light, and have proprietary alternators that are expensive to upgrade. As such, space, weight, and efficiency are high on the list of concerns. I want to be able to hear my music, with rich bass, at highway speeds in a loud car, maybe even with the windows down. I'm working on quieting the car, but that's a whole other task altogether:

Interior sound deadening, noise reduction, and thermal insulation - Pelican Parts Technical BBS

I listen to music in my car almost exclusively by hitting shuffle on a giant Spotify playlist and skipping tracks I don't want to hear at that moment. As such, I don't have much need for a full-blown head unit (though I do need volume and skip controls without having to touch the device).

My general plan of attack is to run all the wiring, figure out my mounting strategies, inspect the components that are currently on the car, and try to get everything working as-is...Then I'll buy the sub and source unit.

My planned layout and some explanations for the choices I've made:

Source

I'm gonna give Bluetooth a whirl with the MB Quart N2-WBT. It has volume control, track skip, aux in, a remote out lead, and is very discreet when installed. I'll probably have a dedicated iPod in the glovebox hooked up to a charger of some kind (splice a socket into switched power and plug a USB charger/adapter into it).

Subwoofer

I had considered going with an underseat sub such as the Memphis Audio SA110SPD Nanoboxx, but at (a questionable) 200w RMS in a tiny enclosure...I just don't expect it to get all that loud. I tried very hard to get a JL MicroSub under the seat, but even the smallest/thinnest was just a bit too large to get underneath. 4" thick custom enclosure? I dunno.

I then considered getting an enclosure for behind the front seats, but that would involve a custom enclosure as most people have stopped making audio stuff for these cars. It also pushes that weight back towards the rear, which is undesirable in a car that's already way too ass-heavy due to the engine hanging off the rear axle like an idiot.

I decided instead to put a sub in the frunk, behind the gas tank, above the smuggler's box. This will move the weight over the front axles (ideal) while allowing me to fit a JL Audio ACP-110LG-TW1. 400w RMS from less than 30A in a compact 25-pound enclosure that includes the amp. Lovely.

Speakers

There are some MB Quart components installed in the car, though one of the tweeters disappeared into the door, and I don't know any of the specs or if any of it actually works. The current plan is to assume it's all 100% good and see how it goes from there. No rear fill.

Amp

Oh boy; the plan is to recommission my ancient a/d/s PQ10 and mount it in front of the gas tank in the nose of the car. It is a period-correct, fantastic-sounding 4-channel amp, but it is anything but efficient, has no signal processing whatsoever, and channels 1 and 2 are blown, so I can't bridge anything. I'm limited to maybe 35w RMS @ 4Ω for channels 3 and 4. I'm gonna give it a whirl, and if it's not loud enough, maybe go with a JL Audio JX400/4D and bridge it to 200w x 2. That should overpower the sub, and I don't think I can go bigger there, so...

DSP

I have an ancient Coustic XM-1e active crossover lying around that pairs well with the a/d/s, so I'm gonna give it a whirl. If I get a better amp here, I may remove it. I've also thought about getting a MiniDSP unit, but at the moment, I'm not doing anything all that fancy.

OEM help.. and advice please..

Recently installed some 5x7 Pioneer 2 way coax front and rear in my mustang just to have something better than stock. They are run off a JL 400/4 amp and factory deck. It sounds horrible.. tonality sounds really bad. I don't think it's the speakers so much as its probably the factory deck and zero way for me to correct it. I know the fix 82 will flaten the signal but can I get away with just using the Tweak 88 or do I really need the fix 82 to correct the stock deck? I am only using front speaker signal into my amp. Thx for any advice.

Saw one thread about crypto a week or two ago, but not much else on here.

Realize this is OT, but that's why there is an OT forum :D

Maybe people can ramble here about crypto, maybe it wont catch on...

Anyway, been patiently waiting for litecoin to take off the past few months as i "knew" it would .

Happy to hold a fair amt of profit for now.. kind of a new venture for me. Only been trading since may (on gdax). Got an inheritance and decided to play with half of it (2500) in the cypto market.

Holding my own, ~4k as it sits, but often wonder if i'd done better had i just bought and not dicked around moving in and out of the markets pretending to know what I'm doing.... ;)

Feel free to ramble.

I still need to do research on sound deadening for doors as well as look into the Maestro AR & kenwood option. I have a 2015 silverado double cab with the 8" screen no bose system.

Since i don't have android auto, I was leaning towards a new head unit.

Ive been doing research all week and have watch several of product unbox, install, & review videos. As well as price and compared on Best Buy. Ebay, Crutchfield, Sonic Electronix, Amazon, and Audio Savings. My decision will somewhat be influenced on Best Buy availbility (12 months no interest) and/or Ebay or Ability to pay with paypal (6 months no interest). For instance $165 for both Maestro RR & GM3+ from 702_motoring (who im going to go checkout in person) vs $225 if got at Best buy.

This is the set up im thinking.

Maestro RR, Maestro GM3+, Maestro Sat1, GM Antenna Adapter, Sirius 300, Metra 99-3014g..

Head Unit Kenwood DDX9904s/9903s (1st choice) or Pioneer 4201/4200nex. was going to look at Ilx02 as well.

Subwoofer 2017/16 Kicker L7S84 (with a rodney console box.. 1st choice) or PolK MM1 1042 DVC/SVC with me making a console box has a 9" cod.

Speaker Options: 17 Kicker KSS 6.75 & KSC 6.75 or Alpine 6.5" R-S65c & R-s65 or Polk MM1 6.5" 6502 & 652 or Kenwood 7" 1800 & 1800

For amp at first I was looking at dual setup but i want clean and SQ so I decided on 5 channel. Choices Pioneer GM-D9605 or Alpine PDX-V9 (1st choice) or Rockford Fosgate T1000X5ad.

Lastly was looking at getting a 2 channel complete ofc kit with a 4 channel rca add on not sure on length i need so i just did 17'. Options: Stinger 4000 SK4641 & SI4417 & 25' spkr role ($94) or Stinger 6000 SK6641 & SI6417 ($124) or Kicker CK4 & KI46 ($94) or Rockford RFK4X & RFI-16 ($91) or NVX XKIT42 & XIV45 ($80) or T-Spec V8 series V8-RAK4 & V8RCA-174 ($63 plus spkr wire) or Rockville RWK4CU & RTR174 ($65) or Sound Quest/Stinger Select SQ/SS1200XS ($40/$50 plus 4 chl rca)... Now i cant find strand count on the stinger series, sq/ss, and t-spec but all these have 1,862 strands on the 4 awg.(Kicker/Rockford/NVX/Rockville) Kicker came in at 111 on speaker vs 65 RF.

I know I also need tessa tape, and stuff to sound deaden. I did a full stereo back in 2003, but have also wired up full blown baja trophy truck race truck 2x over last couple years. I was leaning towards either doing install and taking it in to be rta and tuned or removing interior and doing the mounting and taking in for wire and tune.

I know its a lot to take it but i hope you will respond with some advice on my set up vs going with the Maestro AR as well as suggestions on some of the stuff i have listed.

thank you so much

Hello everyone.

I'm looking for an installer to do a stealth alarm install with some options.

It's a viper remote start module. I can't remember the exact accessories I have with it, but it would be things such as the backup battery, backup siren, and such.

Thanks.

Help choosing (Cordless Drill \ Impact Driver Combo Kit)

Labor Day is coming up and I'm looking for a deal on a combo drill/driver.
Here is what I'm looking at:
Bosch 18 Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/2 in. Drill/Driver and 1/4 in. Impact Driver Combo Kit with 2-1.5 Ah Batteries (2-Tool)-CLPK26-181 - The Home Depot
It's 18 volts and at my max budget.

Makita 12-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit (2-Tool) with (2) batteries, Charger, Case-LCT209W - The Home Depot
I think 12 volts should be fine for personal car audio stuff and work around the house plus some wood working projects.

Another option:
Milwaukee M12 12-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill Driver/Impact Driver Combo Kit (2-Tool)-2494-22 - The Home Depot

I have a corded drill and it's been getting the job done for what I need. So I was thinking of just getting a 1/4 inch impact driver and call it a day. It's the cheapest option which is great.

Any input and feedback are greatly appreciated.
This is a "want", not a need. However I would like to buy once, but not over spend at the same time.

Finalizing Car Audio Build, Need Advice

$

Hey everyone, first timer on the forum here. I'm gonna try to make this post short, but please bear with me. I've been heavily researching car audio on forums and videos for a month now, and I now feel like I have a very solid understanding of everything. However, I'm a college student who is sorta splurging on some of these parts, so I can't afford to make mistakes in this build. I am mainly asking for y'all to look over this build and give me any final advice to avoid costly mistakes and to give me your final blessing lol.

Feel free to answer whichever questions you can help in, I don't expect anyone to invest all of their time into this thread! And thanks so much in advance!??

My car: 2007 LX Coupe with (I'm guessing) the non-premium sound system with NO navigation.

*My plan:
1. Keep factory head unit
2. Wire LOC to have 4-channel flat signal from factory head unit
3. Install 4 channel aftermarket amp (bridge two channels for sub)
4. Install one new 12in subwoofer (bridged 2 channels @ 2 ohm)
5. Install new front speakers/tweeters (2 channels @ 4 ohm)
6. Keep factory rear speakers (not sure how to keep these connected with signal and power from factory HU)
7. Sound deaden most of the car?

*Features I really want to retain:
1. AUX INPUT is a must!
2. Amp and audio system to turn on/off automatically with headunit/car (I don't want a manual remote switch for the amp)
3. Fade/balance/bass/treble/etc
4. OEM reliability of the sound system

I already own this speaker/tweeter/crossover combo, so I can't return it

My Questions Regarding This Build:

1. Since I want to reuse my old rear speakers (and I will already be using up my 4 channels on my aftermarket amp for the front speakers and sub), can I somehow leave the rear speakers connected to the factory HU amp and channels, and if so, how? (Or, would I have to simply buy a 5 channel amp?)
2. Will I lose fade/balance/bass/treble adjustment if I have this setup as described?
3. Will my 4-channel LOC play nicely wired to my 2-channel factory high level signal?
4. Are my front high level speaker signal wires okay to tap-into for my LOC and RCA to my aftermarket amp? (In other words, will I not get a full-range signal?)
5. How do I keep my factory AUX-input function after wiring this?
6. Would my amp likely have sufficient RMS to run my whole setup without distorting or clipping?
7. Applying sound-deadener: which interior sections will give me the most bang-for-buck for reducing vibration and road noise?

Conclusion: After reading through what I'm trying to accomplish with this build, please let me know if the parts I bought will either bottleneck each other, if I'm missing something, whether they're poor quality, or whether there is a better/cheaper alternative.

Thank you in advance!!

PM me with model, price and pics, please. I'm a seasoned trader here with a good record, so it'll be an easy deal with no hassles if I find something that looks good.
