Helix V Eight in a Golf R need subwoofer suggestion

$

I got my fender amp replaced with Helix V Eight DSP/AMP in my new 2018 Golf R. 8 speakers and a subwoofer set up from factory. Also replaced the 6.5 inch donut sub with Rockford Fosgate R2SD2-12 DVC shallow sub.

We left out the rear tweeters. 2 Channels are connected to the two sub woofer DVC channels. Remaining 6 channels to 6 speakers. Whole set up is excellent but the bass is not bright enough. I am used to listening to 300Watt RMS Sony 12 inch sub(Sony XS-GS120L) with a 300Watt amplifier(XM-PK100D) in my old car. Bass was bright even when volume was low. Bass is good/filling but I don't think it is bright enough. For a normal person I am sure will appreciate the Bass. But I am looking for more. When I say more I mean brighter not boomy.

Unfortunately there are no bridgeable channels in the Helix DSP/AMP. How about JL Audio ACS110LG-TW1 powered subwoofer. I am looking for something that can easily fit in my hatch. Again not sure how good these powered subs are?

Please suggest. Thanks in advance.

THanks in advance.

Subwoofer frequency response??

I need schooling on frequency response. I have always used JL subs since the 90s and now I am doing a super-low budget build and looking into different subs that has a fr of 50-1000, and I see the JL has 28-250, so now I am super confused because I have never looked into this before. Does that mean those subs dont go below 50? The front stage has 50-20k. Where can i learn more about this? I will be running active front stage with two 8 sealed subs to round it all out, nothing special. (there is no room for 10+ subs btw) Thanks!!

Beryllium tweeters

I had a chance to listen to some Focal Utopias the other day (165W-XP's). The mid-bass were fine, but the beryllium tweeters really stood out to me as sounding extremely smooth, detailed, and natural/spacious.

It's the first time I've ever considered moving on from my GB tweeters, but not at $1750 for the Focals. I have some GB60's, 25's an 10's on the way from Rob3980, so I've been planning to replace my GB15's anyway and might as well explore what's out there.

Does anyone have any experience with any of the beryllium tweeters from Madisound? I've seen the Scanspeaks used quite a bit. The D3004-6040-00 looks like it has the same overall diameter as my GB15's, but the D3004-6640's seem huge.

Appreciate Your Help with my DSP Purchase

I’m about to pull the trigger on a DSP HD purchase for my 2017 GMC Sierra Crew Cab SLT, and would appreciate your feedback as a sanity check. I’m not technically savvy when it comes to audio equipment, which makes a DSP purchase particularly challenging. Here are my marginally informed thoughts:

• Zapco HDSP-Z8 V PRO – Like many of you, I’ve been intrigued by Zapco’s prospective offering for quite some time. Of particular interest to me is 24 bit / 96 kHz FLAC file playback capability. And like the rest of you, I continue to wait, and wait, and wait………….

• Helix DSP PRO MK2 with HELIX HEC HD-Audio USB-Interface – Assuming the Zapco prospective offering remains prospective for the foreseeable future, this Helix unit is currently my first choice. I would likely pair this up with a personal audio player, such as an Astell&Kern AK70.

• Mosconi DSP 8to12 Aerospace – Mosconi seems to receive respect, but a bit less so than Helix.

• Arc Audio PS8-PRO – I believe the PS8 PRO has come out since I last looked at DSPs, and am curious as to your opinion. Should this receive more than marginal interest? There is a current thread suggesting I perhaps should.........

• Audison Bit One HD – For some reason, Audison doesn’t seem to receive much love.

For context, here is my current installation:

• GMC Factory Head Unit with Navigation.
• NAV-TV M650-GM “De-Bose” Processor.
• Zapco ASP-X4 Electronic Crossover.
• Zapco Z-150.6LX Amplifier.
• Focal ES 165KX2 Component Front Speakers.
• Focal EC 165K Rear Backfill Speakers.
• MtIacoustics Custom Subwoofer Box.
• Two Illusion Audio C12 Subwoofers.
• Mosconi AS 200.2 Subwoofer Amplifier.

Thank you very much for the sanity check, as I’m far from a DSP HD expert!

I dont want to cut too much in the wrong places and have to start over.
I know I have to trim back the sharp edges on the left side just not sure how much or at what angles.
It's hard for me to picture what the pod will look like after I stretch fleece over it.
Here's what I'm working with.

Is bridged Best For Me?

Ok, i have a 4 ohm DVC sub wired in series at 8 ohms. I also have my amp bridged, but the manual doesn’t have a power rating for 8 ohms bridged even though it says its safe.

The way it’s wired now, is it the best way? Most power? Or is there a better way?

Sirius vs SiriusXM antenna

Hello,

Now that the Alpine iLX-W650 is showing up at retailers (nothing in Canada yet...) I've bought the Sirius SXV300 SXM kit for it.

I've previously had Sirius service on an old Starmate receiver in the car and ran the antenna into the trunk wing over the rear tailgate glass. It's plastic and doesn't block signals.

Does anyone know if the antenna itself is the same between the two devices, or will I have to run the new antenna?

Thanks.

Hello everyone I’m new to the Helix world of dsping. I recently changed from a Rockford Fosgate dsr-1 to the Helix pro mk2. I have watched I think almost all the how to video’s on YouTube. I have the crossovers all set and have been able to play music.. I need to have it tuned and have everything playing to peek SQ. Also this is on a motorcycle so I know I will get slack for usin* such a technical piece. Wondering if there was someone in NC that can help with the tuning aspect. Thoughts and help would be great...

Hello everyone.. New to the forum but not new to audio but constantly learning. I have a motorcycle with 4-6.5s midrange a set of tweeters, compression drivers and 2 10” midbass speakers. All powered by 3 soundigital amps. Had a Rockford Fosgate dsr but have changed it to the Helix pro mk2.. Over kill I know but I liked the overall performance of it. I compete in a lightweight competition class for SQ and spl meter classes.

2005 Honda Accord - Stereo System Using Stock Head Unit

Looking for help on figuring out what I need to do for upgrading my car audio. I’ve done some basic research, but it seems to be fairly subjective, so I don’t really know where to begin. Here’s what I’m shooting for...

=> First thing… Only keeping the car for up to 5 years, so don’t want to go overboard, but want to use this setup as ‘practice’ for the next car as far as sound dampening and car audio install.

=> Ideally, I would like to keep stock head unit, I don’t like the idea of installing another radio in my car and having two stereos as it looks tacky, BUT, if it makes a big difference I could live with it.

=> Looking for clarity of sound over bass/loudness.

One of my friends said I need something like the LC6i, two amps and sub, but seems excessive, is there an "easier" way?

Crossover, what to do...

So havent had anything other than a stock system in many years. I have accumulated several pieces of equipment tho... i am wanting to use most of what i have and add a crossover and midrange... heres what i am working with for my '07 Equinox...

Alpine V12 T757 (midrange)
RF t3002 (midbass)
Mb quart oa1000.1 (sub)
Memphis pb140 (tweeters)

Dayton 12" HO sub

And i have the following.... to use.

PG rsd 6.5c (will use the tweeters)
Mach5 mli65

Will be picking up some 4" eminence alpha for the midrange...

Now, i have a cache coe6 that i can use with the factory HU, or will pick up an double din HU- undecided... and of course a crossover will be needed.... i am reluctant on the dayton dsp as its about $250. (CDN) and trying to keep costs down... there are a few electronic crossovers that are bandpass capable that *should* do the job... including using partsexpress passive...

Or stick to 2 way and passive.... thoughts???

Not sure if this is allowed, but I have been contemplating selling my s2000 and purchasing a TRD PRO 4runner. If this is not allowed, mods feel free to delete.

Name: Paul
Price: $23,000
Location: Mobile, AL
Contact: PM me, (251) 656-3579 for serious inquiries only
Details: 2004 Honda S2000 Rio Yellow Pearl
53.5k miles
clean CARFAX
Brand new OEM front lip and side strakes just installed
I also have an AP2 OEM wing
TR Motorsport C3 17x9 +62
255/40/17 Riken Raptor, plenty of tread left (decent daily tire)
supersprint exhaust, test pipe
k&n intake
swift spec r springs
OEM tonneau cover
new OEM brake pads, new rotors, brake fluid change within last 3k miles
Brand new battery

I purchased this car with 49k miles in 2017. It mostly sits in the garage. I take it to Cars and coffee and drive it occasionally on off days. All modifications have been done under my ownership besides the k&n intake.

i also have the ap2v1 wheels, OEM exhaust, CR shift knob, CR radio door, brand new CR floor mats, black CR s2000 side emblems, black front and rear Honda emblems (not the cheap plastic ones)
i also have a mint set of ap2 tails I can include as well
extra set of OEM pillars

I did a custom sound quality audio build in this car. I can subtract $2k and sell the car without audio.
Audiofrog gb15 in custom pillars, Audiofrog gb60 in doors, Audiofrog gb10d2 in custom sealed trunk enclosure, Phoenix gold ti21600.5, pioneer deh-80prs head unit. This system is time aligned and EQ’d. Active crossovers from the head unit.

I realize this car isn’t for everyone. Some costs of the audio and modifications is reflected in my asking price.

I do not have to sell this car, and to be honest, I don’t want to. Only reason for possibly selling is to do a 4runner build.
I did finance the car when I purchased it so my credit union has the title.

This is a super clean Rio Yellow example. Sorry for the iPhone photos. It’s what I have.

Helix V Eight sound clipping with VW stock speakers

$

I got a Helix V Eight DSP/AMP for my VW GOlf by replacing the fender amp. Speakers are still stock from VW with 2 ohm resistance. After 3 days today the front speakers are clipping off in loud volumes. After the checking the resistance on the front mids they went down to 0.9 ohm. Not sure how that is possible. Did I fry my factory speakers by over powering them? Or any other installation issue like ground etc?

Tweeter Aiming... Where?

Tweeters in the kick panels, on axis, time aligned... Should I aim them at the driver ears or at the center of the headliner? This is a classic car, not a daily driver, and I will have passengers, but I will have the ability to change pre-programmed time alignment on the fly.

Speaker Hiss Help

I have a 2010 Mini Cooper Clubman S with the 10 speaker Harmon/Kardon System.

I recently ripped out the Harman Speaker and kept the stock head unit and below is my current setup:

Jl Audio Fix 82 receving its inputs from the Harmon/Kardon amp speaker outputs
Pioneer 8604 4 Channel
Pioneer 8601 Mono Block
Alpine Type R 5.25 Front Components
Alpine Type R 6x9 Coxials in rear
Alpine R Series 10 in sealed box.

All the amps/JL DSP are wired directly to the batter with 2 gauge wire

There is a hiss when no music is playing, it DOES NOT get louder when i increse the volume and music will over play the hiss when it gets louder. I sure my gains are not to high because i can back them down, the hiss minimizes but i dont get the same output level. Im at a loss and am abought ready to install the OEM Harman becuase the hiss is getting on my nerves, i have done several full installs and never had a hiss like this, but again this is my first OEM inregreation.

Thanks for the help/

Testing speaker cable polarity with multimeter

Hi,

The installer did not label the wires going to the tweeter from the amp. Is there an easy way to measure the wire polarity using a multimeter?
