Dayton Audio RTAs: OmniMic V2 -VS- UMM-6

$

I want to buy a RTA for system tuning. I was curious what the added benefits would be spending a extra $210 on the $300 OmniMic V2 would be versus the cheaper $90 UMM-6. Obviously it’s a better mic but is it overkill for system tuning? I’ll buy the OmniMic if it is but I would rather invest into my A-Pillar build!

Already spoken to MSC, and it seems like I have to wait for an order from Germany. Hoping to get it a little bit faster though, anyone ever seen the high level input connectors for Helix DSPs on sale? I saw Audiocontrol sold some, but I don't think they're the right size.

I am talking about this:

How do we make bank cards more secure?

$

Curious what you guys ideas are for making bank cards more secure? Woke up this morning to find $360 worth of Bed Bath and Beyond on my bank statement from New Jersey, having never been to NJ (and not even sure I have ever been inside a Bed Bath and Beyond) I knew there was something up. I rarely have cash on me, so use my card at 99% of the places I go, which for the most part are within an hours drive of me. I half wonder if a gas station I stopped at either on the way to or from the NCSQ meet is where my card got cloned.

So, how do we make the cards more secure? The chip does nothing, with my card you can just click sign for purchases and half the time (I think if is under $100) you don't need to enter the PIN number or sign, when I do have to sign the person at the register does not even bother to look at what is being signed. I tested this by signing obscenities multiple times I used my card (much to my children's amusement)

Are NFC devices any more secure? I don't know enough about them, but if I look in Samsung Pay it shows a digital card number that is linked to my physical card number. I assume if someone were to clone that digital card number, it would fail as technically it only exists as a link to my physical card. A lot of places do not have NFC readers, and I have used them many times to pay via my watch, but I wonder how secure those are and how long until the criminals catch up with that level of security.

The most annoying piece of all, whichever POS bought a bunch using my card, gets to keep all they purchased and simply moves onto likely another card they have cloned.

Cash will always be the most secure option, after that though, how do we improve on what is out there already? I usually go through this at least every couple years. Maddening.

Need help tuning active setup!

Hello everyone! I've finally gotten my stereo installed and cannot get it really dialed in to save my life. I've run the Auto TA/EQ on the 80prs, but the highs are still quite bright, and I feel like the vocals are quite muddy at higher volume.

So with the setup below.. how the hell should I go about tuning this?

Flat DEH EQ -> Gain/Xovers on amps -> Auto TA/EQ???
Flat DEH EQ -> Auto TA/EQ -> Gain/Xovers???

Mids/Highs
PPI 900.4 (4-channel mode)
2x Image Dynamics XS65 mids
2x Image Dynamics XS28 tweets

Sub stage --
Wolfram 1500.1 @ 1 ohm
2x Sundown Audio SA-12 @ 1 ohm

IB, will these specs work

Folks, I have used sealed and bandpass but now want to give IB a try. I want to hear what it sounds like and honestly want to get my truck back. Certainly want to do this with a cheap driver to experiment and found specs of a cheap 12 inch and want to know your thoughts. Specs below

FS 24.6
Qms 15.6
Qes 0.86
QTs 0.81
Vas cu.ft. 3.606
BL 10.31
Xmax 11.7 mm

On paper would this work. Since a 4 ohm driver, thinking of doing two powered by the Polk PAD 2000.0 I recently picked up for 50 bucks. I believe that rates right at 500 rms in mono load.

I'm not sure if my MiniDSP 2x4 is right for my setup.

My headunit puts out 4.5v from the preouts at full volume unclipped.

It goes directly to the 2x4 and then goes to my amp. Leaving the 2x4 I get 1.1v out. At this point I have to adjust my headunit volume down to 36 to avoid clipping.

Setting the gains on my amp, I've done it both by ear and with my oscilloscope. Both of these settings are not near loud enough.

When I was active from my headunit straight to the amp, it was unbearably loud with no clipping.

Another factor is, I'll have to get another 2x4 in order to run my subs, so that's another $110 plus shipping.

I feel like I should sale the 2x4, and get a Dayton DSP-408 as it has enough input/outputs for my front stage and subs as well as 3.5v out to the amp.

Anyone have any thought on this?

Also, I have made zero changes to the 2x4 other than setting up the x'over.

2019 VA/MD/WV/PA etc. Fall Meet - Sep 21st

Fall meet time, I realize it is not even summer yet, but had been speaking with Jason about meets and have decided that instead of trying to organize and host 2 meets a year, that he will host a spring meet and then I will host a fall meet. Looking at the date of Sept 21st as it is far enough out from finals that it should not impact anyone who may be heading there. Weather will still be good, but hopefully not as crazy humid as it can be here in the height of summer.

So, Sept 21st at my place, for a rough idea of where that is use zip 22630. 10 am Saturday until whenever, we will likely head to a spot about 30 minutes from here for dinner. Anyone who may be in town Friday is welcome to come hang out at the house as I will be taking the day off from work to prepare things for Saturday.

Hotels:
Quality Inn Skyline Drive - 15-20 min
Hampton Inn Front Royal 25 mins
Holiday Inn & Suites Front Royal 30-35 min
Marriott 30-35 min (not yet finished construction, but should be).
Ramada Inn Strasburg - This is right off I-81 and where we will most likely head for dinner. A few guys have stayed there over the years and from my understanding it is not a bad option at all.

Bring yourself, your car with or without a working system, a chair, canopy if you want one, friends, family, kids and pets more than welcome. If you bring kids or pets you are responsible for them (my yard is big, but not fenced in).

Eton Orchestra Speaker Line

Curious if anyone here has used this line of speakers. I came across them perusing Madisound and they intrigued be. These are obviously their cheapest line, with their HEX Symphony II being slightly more expensive and then their Arcosia Magnesium line being much more expensive.

They seem to be a respected brand, but not common in the US in car audio. I believe I read somewhere the HEX cone is the same as was used in Diamond Audio's old HEX speakers/subs.

As far as specific speakers I've been looking at using the 4" Orchestra 4-612 in a 3 way and possibly their 7"/8" as a midbass. However for pure midbass, I think there might be better options.

Any reviews or experience with Eton speakers? Please share!

Fried Hertz Tweet Repl. - Peerless Xtsc40 "flangeless" vs. other varients OR?

"Budget" replacement for fried Hertz HT 25 tweeter - XT 25 flangeless or ??

I was running Hertz "high energy" components (HV 165 woofer and Ht 25 tweeter) in my 03 G35 coupe active via Pioneer AVH X2700bs HU and had a little incident with my wiring. (I was making some changes and had to rush off somewhere with things wired temporarily.) Anyway, coming home - the last corner - something shifted and I heard a very unmusical like screeching/crackling noise from left and turned to see little wisps of smoke coming from my tweeter. SSSSSSHHHHHIIIIII******* not my F'n Hertz tweeter. You FFFFFNNNNN idiot!!!! I knew why it happened, who was to blame and how easily I could have avoided it. I shut it off as fast as I could but the damage was done.

I didn't care that much for the ht 25 with the hertz passive xover, even at max attenuation, they were actually painful to listen to, especially in the factory sail panel location. But active, in the A-pillars, of axis, they were sounding pretty good. Blew away my current temp tweeters - some older Polk Momo's.

Anyway, I've tried, unsuccessfully, to repair the voice coil. I looked for a single reasonably priced replacement HT 25 with no luck. Tried my older Polk Momo tweeters, but am not satisfied.

I would love to try the Mille tweeters or possibly the HT 28's, but can't do it right now, so need some "budget" tweeters that sound good and compliment my HV woofers. I've read good things about the Ht 25's so I order the sc40's, the flangeless version, which should be here in a few days. I noticed, however, that there are some differences in the ts parameters between the different models and don't know if the flangeless version that I ordered will perform as well as larger versions.

I'll probably be mounting them in the A pillars where i had the Hertz tweeters. The Hertz tweeters I had firing almost directly across at each other. I was planning on experimenting with the xt25 aiming, thinking maybe 30degrees off axis. I was also thinking of trying them on axis in the windshield corners.

So...
Go with the flangeless version or return for the sc90's or other version or
any other suggestions for tweeters? What about position/ aiming, x-over points?

I'd appreciate any advise.

Thank you.

Arc Audio XDi vs Focal FPS4160

Looking for opinions on which amp to used bridged to power a pie of morel elate ti woofers. Woofers are crossed at 80-800-1000. First option is arc xdi 450.4 which is class D and would give 250 watts x 2. Other option is Focal FPS 4160 class AB would put out 310 watts x 2. Other amp is helix psix mk2 (may change). Just seeing which amp would be best suited for the elates. I can get both at the same price too.

Helix M Four

Was wondering if anyone has experience with this little amp? I am running a Zapco st4sq right now, but it is just a tad big for where I want to put it. Love the specs on the Helix, just have not seen many using it. I also am looking at the JL xd400/4. Another option would be to hold out for the AudioFrog 4 channel but who knows when it will be available. My only experience with class d was not a great one (ppi phantom 900.4) and I am a little leary of getting rid of the Zapco, just need smaller.

Adding a 3 inch mid

$

I currently have a mosconi as100.4 and a set of focal kx2 165. I have laying around a new Memphis v6v amp 400.4. I also have a mosconi 8-12 aerospace.

I just got a new vehicle and am kicking around adding the 3 inch midrange to this set. My question is the 3 inch mid is a 4 ohm speaker. I believe the set I have is 2 ohm mid driver and tweeter (am I wrong, I don’t have them in front of me ? ).

The mosconi amp does approximately 150 watts at 2 ohm and 100 or so at 4

The Memphis does 65 at 4/ 100 at two and 200 bridged at 4ohm.

My questions are could I (or should I ) use this combination of amps to run the three way setup ?

If the main drivers 6.5 inch are 4 ohm (again not sure if they are 2 or 4 ) I thought about giving them a bridged 200. And running the two smaller drivers with the mosconi.

I’m all ears ?
