"Budget" replacement for fried Hertz HT 25 tweeter - XT 25 flangeless or ??
I was running Hertz "high energy" components (HV 165 woofer and Ht 25 tweeter) in my 03 G35 coupe active via Pioneer AVH X2700bs HU and had a little incident with my wiring. (I was making some changes and had to rush off somewhere with things wired temporarily.) Anyway, coming home - the last corner - something shifted and I heard a very unmusical like screeching/crackling noise from left and turned to see little wisps of smoke coming from my tweeter. SSSSSSHHHHHIIIIII******* not my F'n Hertz tweeter. You FFFFFNNNNN idiot!!!! I knew why it happened, who was to blame and how easily I could have avoided it. I shut it off as fast as I could but the damage was done.
I didn't care that much for the ht 25 with the hertz passive xover, even at max attenuation, they were actually painful to listen to, especially in the factory sail panel location. But active, in the A-pillars, of axis, they were sounding pretty good. Blew away my current temp tweeters - some older Polk Momo's.
Anyway, I've tried, unsuccessfully, to repair the voice coil. I looked for a single reasonably priced replacement HT 25 with no luck. Tried my older Polk Momo tweeters, but am not satisfied.
I would love to try the Mille tweeters or possibly the HT 28's, but can't do it right now, so need some "budget" tweeters that sound good and compliment my HV woofers. I've read good things about the Ht 25's so I order the sc40's, the flangeless version, which should be here in a few days. I noticed, however, that there are some differences in the ts parameters between the different models and don't know if the flangeless version that I ordered will perform as well as larger versions.
I'll probably be mounting them in the A pillars where i had the Hertz tweeters. The Hertz tweeters I had firing almost directly across at each other. I was planning on experimenting with the xt25 aiming, thinking maybe 30degrees off axis. I was also thinking of trying them on axis in the windshield corners.
So...
Go with the flangeless version or return for the sc90's or other version or
any other suggestions for tweeters? What about position/ aiming, x-over points?
I'd appreciate any advise.
Thank you.
