So, this is a weird one...
I've now put my summer car back on the road and it's going to be my 'nice weather' daily driver. It's a 1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe (attaching pic of car and relevant interior locations).
My goal is to have a great-sounding system while retaining the stock appearance as much as possible and not doing any long-term damage to the car (cutting/drilling interior pieces, etc). Parts are hard to find for this car, so until I do come across some extras I don't want to chop anything up.
The car has 6.5" speakers in the doors (perfect), and 3.5" in the dash, but the dash is weirdly shaped so the driver side dash speaker points up, while the passenger side speaker is angled down slightly toward the passenger. This might make for weird imaging if I used the space for large format tweeters (but I'm not an expert on this at all).
In addition, I have a very limited budget. But I do have a bunch of stuff I collected over the years when it became available, either locally, from this forum, or from cars I no longer own.
HUs and processors:
Denon DCT100 (impulse buy but cool)
Alpine CDA-9887
JBL MS-8
Amps:
Kenwood Excelon X400.4 (class D, 75x4 @ 4ohm, 100x4 @ 2ohm)
Kenwood... some really old thing that still works well (35x4 @4, 50x4 @ 2)
Kaption 80.2 (80x2 @4, 125x2 @2, 250x1 @1) - this is a local brand but doesn't make junk, I've heard it's a Zed design but don't know much else
Memphis MC-1001D (300x1 @4, 600x1 @2, 1100x1 @1)
Cadence A5+HC (300x1 @4, 600x1 @2)
Drivers:
JBL GTO650C 6.5" components - Sort of JBL's entry level components, interesting as they are 2 ohm mids and 3 ohm tweets
Kicker Reference CS 5.25 components - bought from a friend who stored them 10+ years, these things are absolute beasts
ID OEM 6.5s
Tang Band 1" ceramic coated tweets - neat looking little things but power handling is pretty low, I think around 10W RMS, they're 8 ohm drivers
A literal pile of coaxials of various shapes and sizes - 6.5", 3.5", 5.25", 6x8"
JBL GTO 10" subs (old but decent)
Diamond D12D6 (12", 600W RMS handling, dual 4 ohm coils)
2 Memphis HPO 12", 500W RMS handling, dual 4 ohm)
Gotchas:
Car has a 75A alternator. An upgrade to a 130A is in its future, but not in the budget just yet. This means I can't really use a pile of equipment.
So, if you had this pile of stuff sitting around, what would you use? Small purchases might be possible, but I can't sink a bunch of cash into it likely for another couple years.
Thanks!
