Blown Audison 2.9 and Dynaudio 172. Switch to HAT L8s ok w/ Dyn142s & 102s?

$

0
A while back I was listening to music at low volume and the sound cut out. Finally had time to figure out what happened and it seems my Audison lrx 2.9 blew (internal fuse blown and new fuse blows as soon as it is turned on). One of my Dynaudio 172s is also blown (was hooked to 2.9). The rest of the speakers had cut off because the remote is fed from the 2.9 to the VRX 4.3 which powers the Dyn 142s and 102s.
No idea why it blew, as I heard nothing.

I am thinking of replacing the 172s with HAT L8V2s. Would the 142s and 102s work with the L8V2s?

I would have to redo the doors for the HATs but wanted to go flush mount with outer door panel anyways.
Pics from install of 172s:
back side of inner door panel:

front inner door panel:

mounted:

Just took these:

You Can see why flush would work better. But will have to build up inner door and cut outer so sort of a PITA for my noob ass:

I also have to move the mids to kicks as they are mounted in the A/C ducts which is clearly not ideal (facing forward).

Only hard part is the fuse box is located on DS kick. People have pushed it back on the Mazda6 so assume that is what I would have to do:

Then I will need to figure out what to power the HATs with. A working LRx 2.9 would be good or if I could find a vrx 2.400… I probably need to get something more affordable but have very limited space but for now anything that would work and fit as I could easily upgraded later if needed.

But, because I am broke I should also look at another option to replace the 172s with ? and throw in an cheap amp to power them just to get my system going as I am driving 100mi a day and silence is getting old. But I could just get a speaker for my phone to hold me over as Ive been doing the drive in silence for over 6 months (yes it has taken me this long to diagnose why my stereo died and now everything is out of warrantee, I stupid I know).

I may send out the 2.9 for repair but it may not be worth it. I am also worried that if I keep the MS8 I may be throwing money away as I do not know if it had anything to do with the blown amps/speaker. I was never able to get the MS8 to send out sub audio even thou I could get a good sub test and calibration signal so I always thought something was wrong with it but was told that it was user error... No idea...

Need advice on components for S2000

$

First, a little background. This is my second S2000 and my first system consisted of an Alpine CDA-117, Hertz HSK165 XL and a JL 300/4. It was a good match for the car at the time.

Now that I am on my second car and I have a hardtop now to help with acoustics, I want a new system. I have an Alpine CDA-117 headunit and a brand new set of Hertz ML280 Signature series tweeters. Now I have a few options/questions and need advice on it.

Should I buy the matching set of Hertz ML1600 6.5 Mid's (old version) that I can get brand new to match the tweeters?

Or

Buy a new set of a Audison AV K6 6.5 (which I can get at a great price and have heard good reviews on)?

Or

Buy another set of Hertz HSK165 XL's?

I have had the HSK's before, but have no experience with the other two. I have also heard the old Mille system is awesome and wondered if it's worth finishing the set?

Thanks in advance for the info.

Subsonic Filter for Morel Ultimo SC Subwoofer?

$
0

Hello, my Morel Ultimo SC 12" sub according to Morel has a resonant freq of 28hz and a freq response of 10-900hz. My Alpine PDX-M6 amp has a subsonic HP filter of 0hz, 15hz, and 30hz. The actual freq floor of the amp is 10hz according to alpine. Should I keep my subsonic filter off (0)? Or should I raise the subsonic filter to 15 or even 30hz?

Help me with a System

$

It has been a while since I last but a system together. I need your advice on what to get.

I just purchased a 2005 GMC Sierra Crew Cab.
I know I want a DD with USB, Bluetooth, and provision for a back-up camera.

I have a set of 6.5 components (Morel Maximo) for the front doors.
I may put a 6.5 coaxial in the rear (same brand).

What I need suggestions on is a HU, sub and box and amp(s).
I would prefer to run just a single 5 channel amp.

Budget ~ $800 - 1000

I mainly listen to Country with a little rock and Roll mixed in.

restoring amps

I'm restoring a couple older amps that I had from back in the day (15 yrs maybe)to put into my F150 supercab.

Audio Art 200.2x and Audio Art 400.2x

I've taken apart, sanded them down, painted and cleaned some rusty terminal screws. I pulled the boards out and set them aside.

I'm assuming the thermal grease should be replaced at this point though. It's still tacky after all these years. Should I replace the grease?

Where can I find the right grease? Been searching but all the results I have found have made me confused. White, silver, conductivity, etc...

I don't want to short my amps out or burn them up.

EQ app for subs? Subwoofer damage?

$

I know this is a car auido forum but this question pertains to a recent shelf system i have purchased. I have an app on my iphone called equalizer. It allows you to boost the bass up to 14db. Right when i recieved the shelf system of course i plug everything in, set the bass boost up to 14db and start banging the subs loud as phuk. I know that all subs have a certian hz range and youre not supposed to go outside of those boundries, but i have no clue what the range is for my subs. I started messing with different frequency, and found at about 60hz it was hitting the low notes very well, whenever i went below 60hz it didnt sound as loud so i decided to stick with 60hz. I didnt do any research on what hz range to use, db boost, etc. like i should have. So here we are a few days later and im noticing the subs seem to sound a bit sloppier compared to when i first got them, there is a shaking type noise within the subwoofers that i dont think was there before. Then again maybe nothing has changed and im just paranoid. Did i goof? Perhaps set the bass too high, wrong hz range or something like that? Are eq apps for subs a bad idea? Have i caused permanent damage to my subs? Any help is appriciated. The shelf system i purchased is called the Sony LBT-GPX55 if that helps.

using a rocket fish bluetooth music receiver for optical out to a processor

$

Rocketfish

just trying to utilize the digital inputs for an Alpine PXA-H800

couple ideas:

1) try installing an Airport Express and digital out to the Alpine PXAH800

2) the noted Rocketfish Bluetooth music receiver has an optical out. Not 100% sure the frequency response using Bluetooth. but it's much simpler install

currently the install is planning to use an iPhone to an HRT iStreamer DAC to the Aux-in to the Alpine PXA which will A/D, process and D/A back to amps. redundant D/A, A/D and further D/A.

the two ideas will reduce a D/A and A/D process.

Upgrades to '99 Forester

I recently bought a '99 Subaru Forester and discovered afterwords that the aftermarket receiver in it was broken. I began browsing online and in-store for a receiver to replace it with, and while I have been able to learn about some of the different specs, I'm finding it difficult to choose. I am also thinking about upgrading the factory speakers, while I'm at it.

The dash is compatible with single and double DIN receivers. The front door speakers are 6.5 in and the rear door speakers are 4 in. I believe there are also spots for tweeters on the upper part of each front door.

I'm interested more in sound quality than in power (or pressure, etc) but have a pretty tight budget. We're probably talking entry-level prices, here, so I'll take what I can get. I am interested in building more complete system gradually, though, as I figure I'll be spending a lot of time in the car/on the road.

And as an only slightly serious afterthought, a head unit with a CD player, a cassette player, and an AUX input would be rad.

Need more details? Have any suggestions?

Need help with final speaker setup

$

I have been working hard and studying for months now, and have received 99% of the equipment I need to set up my car stereo. I am stuck on just a few remaining problems. First here is my gear:

Hifonics Brutus 5000.5 5 channel amplifier
60 x 4 @ 4 ohms
120 x 4 @ 2 ohms
240 x 2 @ 4 ohms mono bridge
(1000 x 1 @ 1 ohm for Alpine SWR-12D2)

Alpine SPR-60C components
110 RMS

Alpine SPR-69
100 RMS

My subwoofer is set, but my fronts and rears are confusing me. I had originally thought I would be able to get the 120 x 4 for my speakers, but now I realize that with my components I cannot use their dual voice coil to wire it parallel to itself and halve its ohms like I did with my subwoofer, as the crossover uses 2 of the terminal connectors (correct me if I'm wrong, that would be the easiest fix!).

I'd first like to know if I am able to use a mono bridge setup to connect the 2 components up front in serial to channels 1&2 and connect the 2 coaxials in the rear in serial to channels 3&4 so that the 240x2 @ 4 ohms effectively becomes 120x4 @ 8 ohms. This would be the closest power rating match for my equipment, but I'm not sure how to wire the components in serial with their unique crossover network. I'd also like to make sure I still have stereo sound in the front and rear.

If that option isn't sound, or lacks stereo capability, then I'm guessing my final two options are to just go ahead and set them all up normally at 60 x 4 @ 4 ohms, or drop the rears and run the fronts at 240 x 2 @ 4 ohms mono bridged. Will that be too much power? I read a post earlier by someone claiming to have ran them at 300 rms for 3 years and they were fine, but I can't find it now. If 60 x 4 will be too weak or inferior to the 240 x 2 setup, will I still be able to power the rears from my head unit while mono bridging the fronts from my amp?

Hopefully my questions were clear enough, because I've been reading up on them for hours and hours and finally decided to get some direct advice after mining so much myself. Thanks! :D

Sony XM-GTX6021 Amplifier question

Hello. I have a Sony amplifier XM-GTX6021 and 2 speakers. The car stereo is connected to the amplifier and everything works fine. When i have only one speaker connected to the amplifier, the sound is great, but when i connect the second speaker the first one loses power and the second one does not have the power that it should have. Looks like it is dividing the power. Is this something normal that should already know? Speakers: alpine spg-13c2. Thank you.
