Alternator trouble

$

Vehicle - Acura Integra 2000 LS

Hi I'm having alternator issues, intermittently. It's affecting not only my SPL but now daily driving, hope this is an appropriate place for this.

I have a voltmeter at all times in the Car so I automatically see all drops, what I'm seeing is it's charging right after starting the Car at 14.4v like normal operation. However when I start driving, especially when coming to a stop my voltage drops to 12.8V like a healthy battery voltage should be...

I've heard your electrical is only as good as the worst ground, so I tried removing the worst ground I have which is the wimpy 4 gauge tranny ground but same deal. Yes my car still starts because ALL other grounds are 2/0 AWG including the valve cover, and everything is also grounded to the block on these vehicles FYI...

I'll be honest, I have a ridiculous sized stereo for this weak 90 amp alternator but I don't play it for extended times ever, and hence why I have my voltmeter to make sure it's not dropping like crazy. Usually when it's working I have no problem maintaining 14V at the volumes I play it at. I'm thinking it's bad and tried checking at autozone with their free test, but of course it passed because it was intermittently charging at 14.4V like normal.

Any suggestions? I realize it very well may be time for an upgrade, this alternator has 15 years on it now. Thanks for any help guys. Fairly new to these forums so again hope this in the correct place.

Looking for a good 2 Ohm midbass 6.5-7" Driver and Maybe a good 2-3" wide bander

Are there any decent 2 ohm midbass drivers?

Any from Madisound?

Besides the SI TM165 or the JBL P660C midbass any other ones?

If it could play well above 2.2-2.3Khz would be great.

Regarding the wide bander mid/high, not concerned on the lower range but at least up to 16-18Khz if possible and 4 or 8 Ohm would be fine.

Amp suggestions

I'm putting together a small system in my older pickup truck. Going to use 2 way Phass components up front and a JL audio 13TW5-3 subwoofer. I'm looking for either a 3 channel amp or a 4 channel that can be bridged to 3 ohms for the sub channel. Most amps I've looked at are not recommended to be bridged below 4 ohms. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sub-free system with punch.

Hello there.

I could use some help, I've been googling and looking at speakers and amps for a while now but there are still some things that i cant quite get a good grasp on.
I've mostly been looking at stereo on a Norwegian webpage(yes, i'm a viking), and i found me a pair of 6x9's i want to put in my rear deck, but these are 400W peak and 65WRMS and i cant seem to find any amps that can handle this amount(apart from mono's). Either there must be something that i'm missing or the page i'm using has a very poor selection.

Anyways; I have a '03 SAAB 9-3SS(its a sedan) which has an original head unit that cant be disconnected(car wont start, or so I've heard). But i dont care about that, i'm pulling out my ashtray and the original cd-changer to make room for a 1-din.
I like to keep things looking clean, and therefore i wish to try making a system that deliver good sound, and hopefully a lot of punch without installing a subwoofer. The slots i have available are;
2x 3,5" in dash.
2x 6,5" in the front doors(one in each)
2x 6x9 in the rear deck
2x 3,5" in the rear deck(these could be even smaller, i haven't measured them).
And worst case scenario i will mount a subwoofer in box hanging under the rear deck with the woofer facing into the cabin. I wish to keep the luggage compartment mostly free of anything stereo related, such as a sub in box standing on the floor.
If i wont need the sub, i will have some space available to make room for tweeters in the rear deck.
I was thinking of letting the 3,5"s be run by the HU and having the 6x9 and 6,5"s rund by a 4ch. But that may sound ridiculous to you, seriously; i dont have a clue!

So what i wish for is a suggestion for just a set of speakers, just one Speaker or the complete system, i dont care any suggestion is good as long as its coming from you people who understand this in a better way than me.

I mostly humbly thank you for any response!

Sincerely

Mr. Why-couldnt-i-just-fucking-buy-a-car-with-aftermarket-well-made-stereo-instead-of-this-crap-fml.

2015 Ram 1500 Build Help

$

Ok, I definitely need some advice as I am too undecided on what to do right now. I just purchased a new 2015 Ram 1500 Sport crew cab and want to put in a good SQ Build that will still get plenty loud enough. I am not new to Car audio, have done 4 previous vehicles that I have owned, each one getting a bit better than the last as I learn more. In saying this though, I am far from an expert in it all and am always open to advice from the more experienced!

Luckily, I read enough beforehand to know that the Alpine system is a pain to upgrade so I picked one up without the Alpine system but still has the 8.1" full color head unit.

Here is what I have so far to work with:

Morel Virtus 602 6.5" 2-way components
2 Image Dynamics IDQ10v3 D2 (4ohm) 10" Subs
Audison Bit Ten D Processor
2 Hertz HDP4 Amps which can be wired in several configurations
- 150w x 4
- 150w x 2 + 500w x 1
- 500w x 2
Alpine PDX-M6 600w x 1

I guess what I am trying to decide on is to run this as an active 2-way using one of the HDP4s as 4 x 150w to the components and the other as 500w x 2 to the subs and then just not use the PDX Amp. Or should I try to figure out a way to make this a 3-way setup seeing as i have such a nice stock location to mount a pair of 3.5" mids. With a 3-way I could run both HDP4's as 150w x 4, giving me 8 channels to work with (3-ways up front and Power some rear door speakers for fill), this would leave me with the PDX M6 giving 300w to each of the subs which might be a little underpowered? I also realize the Bit ten can't handle an active 3-way so it would need to be a mix of passive/active. Completely open to ideas here!

Lastly, can one of you Ram owners tell me if the non-Alpine stereo still sends a divided signal to the speakers and not full range to any of them? If this is the case, how do I Wire it to the Bit Ten so that it has a full range to work with?

I really appreciate any advice you guys can give me with this setup!

The diff between car and pro audio drivers

$

What is the difference between 'car audio' and 'pro audio' drivers that leads to mildly passive aggressive and absolutist claims for and against?

To narrow the scope, let's exclude horns and tweeters.

For a given size driver, Pro audio generally have higher Fs, SPL, and to an extent, Power handling. They're more likely to require an enclosure. Car audio generally have more durable cone and surround materials, lower Fs, to some extent better midbass, and operate well infinite baffle.

I would like to hear about the electro magnetic and measurable sound differences instead of marketing slogans. I read somewhere that PA drivers are designed to sound better as the sound develops over distance to a listener in the audience. This is true of cabinet design (horn loading), but not of the driver itself. This would be a marketing style gimmick.

In terms of distortion, frequency response, excursion, etc...what are the significant differences between PA and CA - besides brand name? In some cases, both may even made in the same factories.

I look forward to learning from the discussion.

Troubleshooting a Harmon Kardon/Mercedes issue

I have significant level of distortion/static/rattling, more noticeable at low volume. This noise is coming from more than one channel and is noticeable both front and rear. It does not seem to be from every Speaker in the Car though. It also is intermittent.

I'm trying to isolate what in the system is causing this prior to adding the subwoofer I want into the vehicle. (budget).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this system? Being fiber optic the typical methods I would use are not viable.

Note: This occurs regardless of source.

Thank you in advance. If this should be in another section of the forum, feel free to move it.

The vehicle is a 2010 Mercedes E550. Stereo is the Harmon Kardon 7.1

I received this amp on a trade a few months back. It was new in box and it's been in use ever since. I believe this is a very under rated amp. Brand freaking new here.

Hi all. I'm new hear and it has been quite a while since I was last involved in aftermarket Car audio. Things have changed, for sure. Especially how the industry interfaces with the public, at large. For instance, I used to have a subscription to two or three Car audio mags. They don't seem to be around at all. I used them to at least try to stay on top of things and stay informed. To learn what was availaable, general trends reviews, etc.

So I had to do some poking around, just to find this forum for instance. I kind of backed into it. I'm a member of some audiophile groups on facebook. They are generally home audio oriented or computer audio oriented. But I got into a discussion with some guys who had been/are interested in car audio, and they mentioned I should join the "RareOldSchoolCarAudio" Facebook group. So, I did and I think I got this forum's URL from a link section at one of the resellers mentioned in that FB group.

So here I am, a brand new member. And I have a ton of questions. I'm hoping there are some people here who can help me on my path.

Cheers,
Scott

2nd Annual Parts Express Parking lot G2G (2016)

This past Midwest Audiofest at Parts express was a great turnout. Loads of people came to check out builds, shop, eat, and have a fun filled day. For those who knew I organized a small G2G for Ohio and surrounding states (and those willing to travel) and decided PE (parts express) was a ideal location. As they cater to they audio community quite well.

Anyway I've already been asked if I would be holding another G2G at PE again next year (2016) and I decided to go ahead and make it a annual event. I know I'm placing this up WAY in advance but I wanted to do so people had plenty of time to plan for this even.

Once time gets closer I will post up specific dates (It's always held in July and the time would be 8am to 5pm as far as PE event time goes). For the G2G 9am to 3pm seemed to be a good time frame this year.

I will go into more detail as information comes in. If your interested I will keep a running list of people going as time gets closer.

Help choosing a head-unit with these specs

$

Hello good people of diyma :hello:

I'm having trouble finding a good head-unit for my project. Everything else is in place, all I need is a new head-unit. I have some requirements regarding the specifications of a new head-unit and this is why I'm having trouble locating one. I'm hoping to draw on some of You guys experience and knowledge in this area.

I have a couple of Audison LRX 4.300 with a SNR of 105db and 6V pre-in. These are my two main requirements for the head-unit, 4-5V pre-out would also be acceptable, it doesn't have to be 6V specifically, just in the of 4-6V. 6CH output would be best as I'll be using an Infinity Kappa 202a to run a subwoofer. Support for FLAC files would also be top notch but I guess I can live without it if necessary.

I hope some of You 12V geeks and gurus can give me some suggestions or point me in the right direction. Is it possible to search for head-units with these kind of specifications on some site that I'm not familiar with?

If further info is needed then just ask.
