WTB 3” Full range driver

Hello, I’m planning to return my mustang to semi stock after getting my 2nd vehicle a few months ago. Planing to use some of the stuff from that setup and moving it to my Passat.

I need a 4” full range driver for my mustang.

Ok so I went back and measure what pods I have, they are actually 4”. I don’t think I can change the title.

So that changes everything now. Would like to keep it under 150

custom SWC via 3.5mm interface?

Hey all

I was wondering if anyone has done this? I want to add a knob / remote via a Sony XAV-AX5000, and I know it has a 3.5mm wired remote that has most functions I need. I have one of these in 1 car and want to add something a little different to another build.

I really need a knob, and don't want the AX210. I would love a volume knob and a next/prev remote. I am aware of the Sdrive units I saw someone do already here, but I wonder if I could use some sort of rotary encoder and simulate what I need along the 3.5mm jack in for remote/sw controls? Anyone know of anything like this? I am also aware there are some cheap ebay controls that are wireless that have their own 3 wire output, and I could then use the sony RC-SR1 cable.

Thanks

What’s your dream (money no object) set of Mids and Tweets?

If money were no object, meaning the cost of the speakers and install didn’t matter:

What set of midrange and and accompanying (tonally balanced) tweeters would you buy?

Eclipse Aluminium / Titanium Subs: Your Thoughts

I was reminiscing at my desk to my installer days of the early 2000's.

I always loved the way the Eclipse aluminum woofers sounded. I've never heard anything like it. Maybe a W7? I was wondering how the DIYMA community felt about these subs.

Allow me to try to elaborate. These subs IMHO created some of the cleanest bass I have ever heard. It was a feeling/sound that I have never experienced with any other woofer. The bass was clean and accurate yet soft?? I don't know, I'm rambling. Feel free to help me out here.

Of course don't chime in if your experience with these speakers are the subs with crappy amps and source units. We all know how that ends up. My experience with these sub's was usually eclipse front to back: Multiple woofers in compact sealed box, Eclipse head units with eclipse amps and lots of available power to support the system.

I have had a few opportunities to play with the titanium's. I recall one guy with a neon that had two of them. Blew the welds off of his trunk lid (its a neon though)! They were so expensive, the normal customer usually bastardized the setup somewhere in the system. But they sure were impressive looking! Feel free to share your thoughts.

Looking for a remote controller

Hello, so I bought some cheap radio on ebay like 2 years ago and the volume button malfunctioned, so every time I tried to adjust volume by it it went crazy and kept going max volume so I had to turn it a few times to stop doing that. So I was only able to do it with remote controller to not mess it up. But now my remote controller died and I would need a new one but dont know where I could get it. Been looking everywhere.

Here is the ebay link of the radio that I bought and the remote controller is exactly the same. So if anyone knows where I could get that remote I would be very happy :)

Just had my ego stroked big time

I went to a shop to try to demo some focal utopia m's.
I couldnt but I did get to demo some hertz legend 3 ways hooked to a audison amp and bit processor tuned to the show room.

We listened to that for a bit and moved on to some high end 2 channel home systems.

Those guys were 100 percent conviced I was running a center channel.

They told me straight up there wasnt a single thing they could sell me to make my truck sound any better than it does.
The installer told me I had the strongest center image he'd ever heard and was saying my system sounded better than a car they had just put some interior lights in that had a full system from car toys. I'm not familiar with car toys but after looking them up it looks like they di higher end installs .

Talk about blew my ego up. To me it sounds good but it's my daily. I know it shit on their 2 channel systems. The hertz sounded nice but I didn't hear anything they had that I couldnt get with the frogs and a little eq.

It's weird hearing this stuff from pros. Its different when your friends say it sounds good. You always feel like they will say that just being nice.

I'm not sure why I'm even posting this. It crazy hearing your own vehicle smoke a $20,000 2 way. I'm on a hell of a high right now lol

3-way Kenwood double dins

$

Is anyone running a Kenwood double din with a built in 3-way crossover? There are a few models that have 3-way crossovers, but all of them that I can find locally are wired poorly on the demo boards and I cannot access the 3-way mode to explore the features.

I’m specifically looking to know about the digital time alignment (DTA) when in 3-way mode. There is a blip in the manual about digital time alignment being defeated in 3-way mode, but it’s not clear if DTA is totally off, or if it’s off with regard to the front focus setting (implying that it may still be on, but manual settings are required). The manual says:

“When the 3-way speaker system is selected, the following functions are disabled.”
Front focus of listening position/DTA

I’m hoping that someone here is running one of these in 3-way mode, or at least has one that they could switch to 3-way mode tocheck for me and let me know if you can still enter time alignment for each tweeter/mid/sub, or if DTA is totally off in 3-way mode. If I could see photos of the menus when in 3-way mode that would be even better.

Mosconi One series

Hey does anybody have any experience with these? We’re looking at using two 130.4s (non dsp) for 3 ways up front and rear coax. Are they a big step down from AS and Zero lines?

Helix Dsp.3 system config

Can you do a 3 way set + center channel + sub channel with just the dsp.3? My installer somehow set up my system with the 3 way set, 2 rear speakers and the sub using just the dsp.3. I wasnt expecting him to set up the rears and there is something odd about how it all came together. I'm hoping to add a center channel and see no need for rear fill.

Guess my question is, can you use just one channel output of the dsp.3 to drive a center speaker and just 1 channel output for the sub? Probably a dumb question, but then I still don't understand how he did the whole thing with the rear fill. I would have to guess he just ran either the sub or the rear fill around the helix and bypassed it, which seems like it would cause problems with the time alignment somewhere.

tweeter mounting, rear deck of 02 Civic?

What is the best way to mount the tweeters from a component speaker system onto the rear deck on a 02 Honda Civic? Because of the directionality of high frequencies, for best sound, I should be able to see the tweeters in my rearview mirror, correct?

Tweeters not working until given enough power

Howdy folks. I've had a problem turn up somewhat recently that I'm having a little trouble wrapping my head around. Most of the time, after the truck has been sitting for a few hours, my tweeters stop working. The way I get them back is power - just turning up the volume. Low volume = no workie. I turn them up and they play. I hate to get into model right now as that will surely sidetrack the thread, but I'll just say they're a nice set of car tweeters living in my truck doors...been in for a couple years now and are used daily - sometimes for many hours.

I'm using caps on both of them - 100uF. So those are suspect too. But the strange thing is that it started happening around the same time with both of them. Could be the amp - who knows?

This started maybe just under 2 years after install. It's becoming a reliable symptom with a reliable fix, but it's getting aggravating...to the point I wanna replace whichever component is causing this but can't quite pin it down. Thought I'd post up here & see if anyone has addressed this phenomenon before and can possibly point to a culprit.

TIA

Is anyone doing speaker design on these forums?

I was looking for a transmission line design for a pair of GB10's. Pete is doing it thru AD still, but $95 seems a little high to me. I used him once before with great results, but i think it was a lot less then. 2014.

Is minimum amp gain setting OK

$

Is there a benefit to increasing amplifier gains even if you don’t need more power?

I ask because I just finished putting in the system in my new car. I was listening to it right after first power up with no tune or gain adjustments (they’re at minimum) and it gets plenty loud with no distortion. I took it up to ~60% on the HU volume and it was probably at the max volume I typically listen to songs I really want to rock out to. I then took it a couple notches further and still no distortion. So now I’m left wondering if I should just leave the gains alone.

I’m thinking worst case I’ll lose some volume with level setting and EQ work, but if after that I still can crank it with no distortion I’m still fine. If I find I need to recoup some volume then I’ll look at the gains.
Does this sound right? I’m just don’t have enough knowledge to know if amps at minimum gain don’t get a solid signal across the 20-20k range, or they have better fidelity with a little nudge on the gains, or something technical that I just don’t know about.

Under Rear Seat Subwoofer Choice

$

Recently picked up a 2019 Ram 1500, and am super stoked about the truck. Really want an audio setup that compliments her much as possible. Speakers, processor, and amplification are already purchased, and now it's time to decide on subwoofer and amplifier/processor placement.

Seems like under the rear seat is the most obvious and popular choice. They finally removed the cupholders and that silly, "wall" that Ram had previously on the floor under the rear seat. So it's a flat floor. Sounds simple enough? Of course, I have to go and complicate things way further.

They provided this really nice weather mat that covers the whole rear floor, and partially up the back wall under the seat. I love this addition, and do not want an enclosure sitting on that at all. Being able to remove and clean as necessary is a definite requirement. So that would mean a, "floating" subwoofer enclosure and amplifier/processor rack. Problem already, because there is barely 9" of depth at the front of the rear seat from the bottom to the floor. And it drops down to about 7" towards the rear cab wall. So this means shallow mount subwoofer, right?

Most of the shallow mount subwoofers I've researched seem to have a higher FS, lower Xmax, and large optimal enclosure. And if you do find one that is quite a bit better than the others, of course the price tag is ridiculous.

Debating on whether to try and use multiple smaller subs instead. I mean for instance, I've seen a couple shallow 12" subwoofers that have about 9mm Xmax, FS of 39Hz, and want at least one cube sealed. Most of your basic 8" subwoofers meet that Xmax and FS, and only a third of the enclosure size. Even ported is usually half a cube, so two 8" ported would almost fit into the same space as a single shallow 12 sealed.

I guess that is the question, has anyone encountered a similar dilemma, and if so, what did you choose?
